The 2013-14 school year promises to be a very exciting one for Laguna Beach Unified School District. In the second year of a three-year transition plan to the new Common Core State Standards*, LBUSD teachers and staff will be continuing professional development activities and implementation of teaching methodologies designed to promote depth of understanding and critical thinking skills. Our district enjoys an outstanding reputation for being an incredible place for students to learn and grow. With a long-standing commitment to continuous improvement, LBUSD serves as a model for the Professional Learning Community (PLC) philosophy, whereby teachers and site leaders work collaboratively with the shared goal of improving student learning. The new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) now provide the backdrop for powerful classroom instruction, effective intervention strategies, and rigorous and relevant curriculum. In addition, LBUSD students will continue to enjoy exemplary athletic and co-curricular programs that collectively offer vast experiences for our students of the 21st century. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best teachers and site leaders within a community that values and supports outstanding public education. Together, we will continue to provide an exemplary education for LBUSD students.
