What is Community Service
Print Document
1. Community Service is time spent working for and with non-profit organizations…those having a non-profit IRS Tax ID#.
2. Working your job or for any profitable business/company without pay is NOT Community Service.
2. Non-profit organizations are the best opportunities for Community Service, but other options are possible, if authorized by the LBHS Community Service Clerk.
3. Volunteer work done for a political campaign will not be counted as volunteer service.
4. Each student must complete 40 hours of Community Service as a graduation requirement (5 hours per semester). Twenty (20) hours can be completed on Laguna Beach High School campus but at least twenty (20) hours must be completed in the community.
5. Hours are to be documented on a LBHS Community Service Card, along with the signature and telephone number of the person in charge of the project. Cards should be turned in at least twice a year to be added to the student’s transcript.
6. A student’s parent MAY NOT sign a service record card for their own student.
