Hello Thurston Families and welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. I would like to welcome all of our new 6^th grade students and I am confident you will have a wonderful experience at Thurston. I would also like to welcome all of our new students in grades 6^th, 7^th and 8^th that have transferred from different schools and from different states! We have a special orientation for those students and their parents and/or caregivers on August 30^th at 8:30. This orientation is for new students only.

Schedules will be mailed to all registered students on August 26^th and 27^th. I would highly recommend that after students receive their schedules, they visit Thurston to identify where all of the classrooms are located.

Here are a few important dates:

August 16^th – Front Office Opens for New Registration at 10:00 am.

September 7^th – First Day of School -

- You will receive a SUPPLY LIST from each teacher

the first week of school.

- Your child should come the first day with pencils/pens

and notebook paper.

- All students will receive a planner on the first day of school.

September 15^th – First PTA Meeting 9:00 am

September 16^th and 17^th – Picture Days in PE Classes

September 23^rd – Back To School Night 6:00 pm

September 23^rd and 24^th – Minimum Days – Dismissal at 1:00

September 28^th – October 3^rd – 6^th Grade Catalina Outdoor Science School

October 13^th – PTA Meeting 9:00 Library

October 28^th and 29^th – Minimum Days – Dismissal at 1:00

November 10^th – PTA Meeting 9:00 am

November 11^th – Veteran’s Day Holiday

November 18^th and 19^th - Minimum Days

November 24^th, 25^th, and 26^th – Thanksgiving Holiday

December 20^th through Dec 31^st – Winter Break

January 3^rd – Back To School
