Principal's Summer Reading Challenge

Can you believe it? The school year is coming to an end. Don't forget the Summer Reading Challenge. Students in grades K-2 must read at least 15 books at or above their reading level to meet the challenge. Students in grades 3-5 must read at least eight (8) books at their level to meet the challenge.

ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS

Thurston Middle School Ecology Club students worked on two major projects this year - a planter rock mosaic and an 8 by 12-foot bottle cap mural still under construction. The goal of the Ecology Club is to create ecological awareness through student work.

ALUM RETURNS TO LBHS

Laguna Beach High School alumnus and professional actor Michael Irish will lead Shakespeare workshops for drama students from June 6 to 10. Irish will work with drama teacher Alexis Karol's sixth period students as well as students from the theater II and playwriting and directing classes.

LBHS WINS M.A.C.Y. AWARDS

The LBHS Drama Department attended the M.A.C.Y. Awards Sunday, June 5, and received multiple awards for the production of "Once Upon a Mattress." Twenty-six LBHS students performed in front of an audience of over two thousand, including more than 40 students, parents and faculty members proudly representing the LBHS Drama Department.

TMS MOCK TRIAL

Students in the Forensic/Mock Trial Club conducted their last major project for the year, the mock trial of King Richard III, along with students in Leah Prettyman's language arts class. Since the club has become so popular, forensic anthropology will now be offered as a regular elective in the fall.
