Laguna Beach Unified School District Schools Recognized for High Student Academic Achievement the by California Business for Education Excellence
The California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) has selected all four LBUSD schools, El Morro Elementary School, Top of the World Elementary School, Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School for the CBEE 2011 Honor Roll. The schools are four of 1,614 California public schools to receive the prestigious title.
Superintendent Sherine Smith remarks, “Laguna Beach Unified School District is proud to have all four of our schools recognized as ‘Honor Roll’ schools by the California Business for Education Excellence. This recognition is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our employees, the vision of our School Board, and the support of our community. Together, we create the gold standard of education in California.”
The CBEE Honor Roll is made up of two different awards, the Star Schools Award and the Scholar Schools Award. LBUSD schools received the Scholar Schools Award.
Schools receiving the Scholar Schools Award from the California business community have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. For High Schools, the Honor Roll recognition also includes measures of college readiness.
The annual Honor Roll award is made possible with support from numerous businesses and organizations including State Farm, Macy’s, Edison International, Wells Fargo, Southern California Auto Club, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the California Business Roundtable, and several private foundations. Chevron Corporation provided specific support in the creation of the STEM Honor Roll.
