U.S. News & World Report Ranks Laguna Beach High School as One of Nation’s Best Schools

LBUSD Superintendent Sherine Smith announced today that Laguna Beach High School has been recognized once again as an outstanding school in the State and the Nation once again by U.S. News & World Report.

Ms. Smith shared appreciation for Principal Joanne Culverhouse and the school community’s commitment to educational excellence, “It takes teamwork, effort, and drive to create and sustain a high performing high school. On behalf of the Board of Education and Laguna Beach Unified School District, I commend Dr. Culverhouse, the students, teachers and staff, and the parents and community who provide us with such deep support.”
In the United States, 21,776 public high schools were reviewed. To produce the new 2012 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings, information was collected by the U.S. Department of Education, among other sources. In California, 577 schools made the ranking. Laguna Beach High School is ranked 113th within California and 589th in the National Rank.
 
In addition to the standards-based core curriculum, a wide variety of rigorous Advanced Placement (AP), honors and elective classes are offered to Laguna Beach High School students. The AP participation rate at Laguna Beach High School is 48 percent. LBHS has an 884 API score, growing 63 points over the past five years and far exceeding the State benchmark for excellence score of 800.
