Superintendent Sherine Smith announced that the school district once again achieved high test scores on the California Standards Tests. The District achieved a Base API of 904, far surpassing the California benchmark for excellence, which is 800. “Laguna Beach Unified School District continues its upward trajectory, thanks to a strong, visionary school board, excellent principals, outstanding teachers, staff and students who are supported by our families and community.

The API is one measure of a school’s performance level and is based on the results of statewide tests for grades two through twelve. The numeric index range is 200 to 1,000. California’s API performance target for all schools is 800. The Base API is reported each calendar year and includes API scores statewide, similar school rankings and growth targets. The Growth API is based on the following year’s test results and is published in August.
LBUSD’s performance is a reflection of the school district’s collaborative focus on student learning from all members of the District team: students, families, community, classified and certificated staff. The Base API test results demonstrate the District’s sustained focus on student learning with intentional, informed instruction systems that support teaching and learning. This team commitment to student learning is evident in the District’s long-standing mission to educate the whole child.
