Laguna Beach High School Receives Top PTA Honor

The LBHS PTA was recently awarded the 2012 Outstanding PTA Unit Award for Fourth District PTA. Fourth District PTA is the nation’s largest PTA district and has more members than any other regional PTA. It includes all of the Orange County PTA units (schools) and the southeastern region of Los Angeles County. The LBHS PTA was selected as the best PTA of the year from 420 schools across all grade levels and districts in the region served by the Fourth District PTA.

Superintendent Sherine Smith shares the school district’s appreciation for the PTA’s commitment to our schools, “It is no coincidence that Laguna Beach High School, one of the top-ranked high schools in the nation, has the number one high school PTA in the region. We are grateful to have smart, dedicated, and enthusiastic PTA members who support our high school. Kudos to PTA President Kathleen Fay for her leadership and vision!”

LBHS Principal Joanne Culverhouse concurs, “The leadership and teamwork of our PTA volunteers is inspirational. Their tireless efforts continue to make a dynamic and positive impact in the lives of students and families.”

LBHS PTA President Kathleen Fay extends her gratitude to the volunteers and the Board of Education and District staff who work together for the betterment of our schools, “LBHS PTA is outstanding due to the ongoing efforts of our volunteers, the strength of our membership, and thanks to the exceptional collaboration we’ve enjoyed with Dr. Culverhouse, our superintendents, our school board members, and with the faculty and staff at Laguna Beach High School. Our district leaders offer not just their support, but their active participation in PTA.”

These are some of the programs made possible thanks to PTA support:
• Extended library hours for students
• Parent education, information and resources at PTA meetings and electronically
• Student academic incentive and boosters programs
• Standardized testing and support services for students
• Active advocacy efforts
• Boys/Girls Night Out programs (positive interactions and connection-building for students in a social atmosphere)
• LBHS Community College and Career Technical Education Fair
• LBHS College Round-Up which provides an opportunity for students and their families to meet with representatives from colleges and universities around the nation and internationally
• Annual student arts competition
