LBUSD Upgrades Nutrition Services Program

This January, the Laguna Beach Unified School District upgraded their Nutrition Services Point of Sale software to a new program, Meals Plus and the online merchant account to e-Funds for Schools.

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dean West remarks, “I am excited about the expanded options for parents. Parents can set up their child’s account to automatically replenish funds when the balance is low, establish re-occurring payments, and use e-checks. In addition, parents can prohibit specific ‘al a carte’ items or specify ‘meal and milk only’ on their child’s account by contacting the Nutritional Services Department.”

The ability for parents to observe and monitor their child’s dietary choices and spending is one important benefit of Meals Plus. The program is designed to help keep the student lunch line moving by speeding up the point of sale process.

The new online merchant option e-Funds for Schools provides several options for parents to make lunch payments electronically. Parents set up and maintain their own logins, passwords and payment preferences. No payments are allowed without parents’ knowledge and authorization through this secure merchant system. Account information is retained in a password-protected file.

The LBUSD Nutritional Services staff recently attended training on the new programs, which became available to District families January 17, 2013.
