Earn College Credit While in High School
Laguna Beach Unified School District offers students the opportunity to potentially earn college credit while still in high school through a range of Dual Enrollment and Early College Credit options. These programs are designed to expand access to rigorous coursework, support college and career readiness, and provide meaningful pathways aligned to students’ goals and interests.
Through partnerships with local community colleges, students can experience college-level learning, explore potential career pathways, and get a head start on their postsecondary journey.
Program Options
CCAP Dual Enrollment (College Courses for High School Students)
Courses offered through College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) are designed specifically for high school students.
- Tuition-free college courses
- Classes will be hosted virtually, at LBHS, or at the community college
- Class times will vary
- Open exclusively to LBUSD students
- Potentially earn both high school and college credit
- Aligned with career pathways and student interests
- Students must have high school site approval before enrolling
- Students receive grades/credits on their official community college transcript
- CCAP courses that have been approved for high school credits will also be listed on the high school transcript
General Dual Enrollment (Concurrent Enrollment)
Students may independently enroll in community college courses throughout the school year.
- Wide range of course offerings
- May require payment of fees depending on the course (students are responsible for the health fee and textbooks)
- Classes will be on-site at the community college or virtual
- Class times vary depending on the college’s course schedule (make sure courses don’t conflict with your LBHS classes)
- Students receive grades/credits on their official community college transcripts
- Students may independently enroll in community college courses throughout the school year and summer
Early College Credit (Articulated Credit)
Students enrolled in select Career Technical Education (CTE) courses may be eligible to earn potential college credit through articulation agreements with local community colleges.
- To earn potential college credits, students must earn a B or higher in the articulated course
- Students must complete the enrollment process for the college that is awarding the potential credits

- Meet any grade-level or course-specific requirements
- Adhere to the community college’s dates, deadlines, and processes for completing assignments, and for enrollment and withdrawal from the class

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Are Dual Enrollment courses free?
Many CCAP Dual Enrollment courses are tuition-free. Fees may apply for some concurrent enrollment courses.
Will these credits transfer to colleges or universities?
Credits are earned through accredited community colleges and may transfer to many colleges and universities. Students should check with individual institutions.
Will I receive a college transcript?
Yes. Grades earned in Dual Enrollment courses become part of a student’s permanent college record.
Can Dual Enrollment courses impact my GPA?
Dual enrollment courses are not weighted on the LBUSD transcript and are not weighted in LBUSD grade point average calculations. For information about how dual enrollment coursework may be factored into your GPA for university admissions, please refer to the individual policies of each college or university.
Is Dual Enrollment right for every student?
Dual Enrollment is best suited for students who are ready for the rigor and responsibility of college-level coursework.
Can I apply for general dual enrollment at any community college?
Yes. LBUSD students may apply for general dual enrollment courses at any California community college. The majority of LBUSD students attend Irvine Valley College (IVC) or Saddleback College, but you are welcome to explore other community colleges that offer courses of interest to you.
Please note that general dual enrollment courses taken outside of LBUSD’s coordinated CCAP program will not be added to the LBUSD transcript. Be sure to check with your school counselor if you have questions about how coursework taken at another community college may apply toward your academic goals.
