2026 LEAD ENRICHMENT & READINESS (GRADES 1-8)
Welcome to the 2026 LEAD summer program! The mission of LEAD is to give students in the Laguna Beach Unified School District the opportunity to learn, enrich, advance, and discover by exploring a new interest or passion. LEAD courses are open to all students who were enrolled in LBUSD during the 2025-26 academic year and are continuing enrollment in 2026-27, at no cost to families.
Our classes go beyond academics, offering opportunities to explore social-emotional wellness, physical fitness, the arts, technology, career preparedness, and other high-interest areas. LEAD courses are designed and taught primarily by LBUSD teachers who bring their own passions to life in creative and engaging ways. Each course is built to inspire and excite students, making learning fun, meaningful, and more connected.
All LEAD classes will be held on the Thurston Middle School campus during the weeks of July 20-24 (“Week One”) and July 27-July 31 (“Week Two”). Students may attend one, two, or three classes per week. They can register for one or both weeks of the program.
The day is broken into three periods: A, B, and C. Period A runs from 8 to 10 a.m. and includes a 20-minute nutrition break. Period B runs from 10:05 to 11:45 a.m. Period C runs from 12:20 to 2 p.m. Students registered for both Periods B and C will stay on campus for a 30-minute supervised lunch period from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and will receive a free lunch daily. Students who do not take a Period C class need to be picked up by a parent at 11:45 am.
Registration:
LEAD is a popular program, and we know families are eager to secure a spot in their top-choice classes or with friends. To help ensure a smooth and stress-free registration process, please review the details below and mark your calendar for your child’s registration date.
Registration is based upon the student’s incoming grade level in the Fall of 2026.
Incoming grades 1-2: Registration will open at 6 p.m. on April 7, 2026
Incoming grades 3-5: Registration will open at 6 p.m. on April 8, 2026
Incoming grades 6-8: Registration will open at 6 p.m. on April 9, 2026
We have a new registration system this year, which will simplify and expedite your registration experience. Details about this system will be sent directly to families via ParentSquare. Please ensure that you receive ParentSquare messages so that you do not miss important updates and instructions related to LEAD registration.
Attendance Expectations:
Attendance expectations in the LEAD program are aligned with those of the academic school year. Due to the structure of the program, students who are enrolled are expected to attend the full week of classes, to arrive on time, and to stay for the duration of the classes they are attending, except in the case of illness. Late arrivals after the first 10 min. of class are not permitted due to the short-term nature of the program.
Transportation:
Busing will be available for the 8 a.m. arrival time and the 2:00 p.m. departure time for a flat fee covering both weeks of LEAD. Transportation to the Boys and Girls Club will be available for students needing extended-day programming. Bus passes will be available for purchase in May on the LBUSD Transportation page. Students who receive a district-paid bus pass during the school year must request a summer LEAD pass by emailing transportation@lbusd.org. Busing is HIGHLY encouraged due to the high volume of students enrolled in the LEAD program, and the heavy congestion of the TMS parking lot. Bus passes do sell out, so please purchase your bus passes early!
For more information, please contact LEAD Program Coordinator Randi Beckley at rbeckley@lbusd.org. We look forward to welcoming your child to LEAD classes this July!
