LEAD ENRICHMENT & READINESS (GRADES 1-8)
Program Overview
Welcome to the LEAD summer program! The mission of LEAD is to give students in LBUSD the opportunity to learn, enrich, advance, and discover by exploring a new interest or passion. LEAD courses are free of cost for all current and continuing LBUSD students. Our classes address academic topics, social-emotional wellness, physical fitness, the arts, technology, and many other high-interest areas. Our talented Laguna Beach Unified teachers and staff from Strategic Kids and Staci Bina’s Yoga Academy are excited to work with students to develop new skills and build meaningful connections this summer. The breadth of our LEAD classes reflects the commitment of our teachers to their student’s educational development.
Course Catalog
The course catalog for summer 2025 will be available in March 2025. All LEAD classes will be held on the Thurston Middle School campus, at 2100 Park Avenue, from July 21 to 25 and July 28 to August 1. Students can attend one, two, or even three classes per week. Students can register for just one week or both weeks of the program. The day is broken into three periods or “sections.” Period A runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Period B runs from 10:05 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. The last class of the day is Period C, which runs from 12:35 to 2:35 p.m. Any student registered for Section B and Section C will also be provided lunch daily.
How to Register
Registration for classes is always based on the child's incoming grade level. Choose classes for the grade that your child will enter in the fall of 2025.
During the registration process, we will do our best to accommodate your class selections. Our staff will review the registration submissions in the order they were received, and you will be notified of your student’s schedule by April 19. We cannot guarantee availability in your first, second, or third choice classes, but we will strive to honor your selections based on availability at the time of your enrollment. If we are unable to offer you a spot in your first, second, or third choice classes, we will contact you to find a class that meets your needs.
We can only accept one registration form per child. Please be certain of your selections before submitting your registration form. Changes or additions to your registration cannot be made until April 19. Submitting multiple registration forms for the same child to change or add classes does not override previous registrations. Instead, it results in duplicate registrations, which will be deleted by our staff. For more information, please contact LEAD Program Director Randi Beckley at rbeckley@lbusd.org.

Class Change Request Form
Beginning April 19 and through July 8, change requests can be submitted online. We are unable to make changes or additions to registrations until that time. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.
Transportation
Busing will be offered at a flat rate of $50 for round-trip passes and $25 for one-way transportation, with bus passes being non-refundable, for both weeks of LEAD.
Bus service schedule is limited to an 8 a.m. arrival for Period A and departures at 2:35 p.m. after Period C. Transportation to the Boys and Girls Club will be provided for students needing extended day programming. Bus passes are available for purchase on or after April 19 on the LBUSD Transportation page. Students who receive a district-paid bus pass during the school year must request a summer LEAD pass by emailing transportation@lbusd.org.
Busing is HIGHLY encouraged due to the high volume of students enrolled in the LEAD program, and the heavy congestion of the TMS parking lot.
Attendance Expectations
Attendance expectations in the LEAD program are aligned with those of the academic school year. Due to the structure of the program, students who are enrolled are expected to attend the full week of classes, to arrive on time, and to stay for the duration of the classes they are attending, except in the case of illness.
