LEAD ENRICHMENT & READINESS (GRADES 1-8)
Program Overview
Welcome to the LEAD summer program! The mission of LEAD is to give students in LBUSD the opportunity to learn, enrich, advance, and discover by exploring a new interest or passion. LEAD courses are open to all students who are enrolled in LBUSD during the 2024-25 academic year and are continuing enrollment in 2025-26, at no cost to families. Our classes go beyond academics, offering opportunities to explore social-emotional wellness, physical fitness, the arts, technology, career preparedness, and other high-interest areas. LEAD courses are designed and taught primarily by LBUSD staff who bring their own passions to life in creative an engaging ways. Each course is built to inspire and excite students, making learning fun, meaningful and more connected.
All LEAD classes will be held on the Thurston Middle School campus, at 2100 Park Avenue, from July 21 to 25 (Week One) and July 28 to August 1 (Week Two). Students can attend one, two, or even three classes per week. Students can register for just one week or both weeks of the program. The day is broken into three periods: A, B and C. Period A runs from 8 to 10 a.m. and includes a 20-minute nutrition break. Period B runs from 10:05 to 11:45 a.m. The last class of the day is Period C, which runs from 12:20 to 2:00 p.m. Students registered for both Periods B and C will stay on campus for a 30-minute supervised lunch period from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and will receive a free lunch daily.
LEAD is a popular program, and we know families are eager to secure a spot in their top-choice classes or with friends. To help ensure a smooth and stress-free registration process, please review the details below and mark your calendar for your child's registration date. We look forward to welcoming your child to LEAD classes this July!
How to Register
Registration for classes is always based on the child's incoming grade level. Choose classes for the grade that your child will enter in the fall of 2025.
During the registration process, we will do our best to accommodate your class selections. Our staff will review the registration submissions in the order they were received, and you will be notified of your student’s schedule by April 21st.
We can only accept one registration form per child. Please be certain of your selections before submitting your registration form. Changes or additions to your registration cannot be made until April 21st. Submitting multiple registration forms for the same child to change or add classes does not override previous registrations. Instead, it results in duplicate registrations, which will be deleted by our staff. For more information, please contact LEAD Program Director Randi Beckley at rbeckley@lbusd.org.
