California Healthy Kids Survey
The Laguna Beach Unified School District administers the Cal-Schls California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) every other year to gather important student feedback on factors involving health, safety, school connections, resources and supports at school, bullying, alcohol and other drug use, indicators of social and emotional wellness, and more. These surveys are a required component of the Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) grant. In the 2023-24 school year, the CHKS survey will be administered to students in 6th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grades.
Parent/Guardians may preview the surveys here:
- 6th Grade Survey (CHKS Elementary Survey and TUPE Module)
- 7th Grade Survey (CHKS Middle School Survey, Tobacco Module, and SEHM)
- 9th and 11th Grade Survey (CHKS High School Survey, SEHM, & Custom Survey Items)
As required by California Education Code, parents/guardians of students in 6th grade will be asked to provide consent for participation in the CHKS survey, and parents of students in 7th, 9th and 11th grade will have an opportunity for passive consent through an opt-out process. The active consent or opt-out process will be deployed through the ParentSquare application in January 2024.
