WELCOME TO EL MORRO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Welcome to El Morro Elementary School (EMS), home of the Sea Lions.
Established in 1953, it is located on a bluff off of Coast Highway overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With approximately 480 students, El Morro's academic program emphasizes a strong commitment to the core subjects and academic rigor balanced with enrichment programs that foster a well-rounded student experience. Meaningful relationships and strong social and emotional supports for students are also a top priority for our students.
Our science program provides an exciting hands-on, inquiry-based science curriculum while our social studies completes a well-rounded core curriculum. Academics are enhanced through the school’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), as well as weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLC) where teachers work collaboratively to improve student learning.
In addition to the rigorous academic standards, El Morro also recognizes its responsibility in furthering student learning beyond the core curriculum, including popular programs like art, choral and instrumental music, and Spanish. El Morro also participates in a wide variety of educational field trips for each grade level ranging from environmental trips to Crystal Cove State Park located right next door to the school trips to the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. El Morro promotes fairness, responsibility, respect, trustworthiness, caring, and citizenship through initiatives like Character Counts.
The El Morro community emphasizes a strong commitment to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and is proud to maintain its hometown feel while instilling a sense of global interconnectedness within each and every student.
El Morro Elementary School received the Distinguished School Award in 2008 and 2014.
