Today, LBUSD began administration of a survey to gather community feedback to inform the development of the District's three-year plan. The survey asks for feedback regarding the programs and services offered to the district to serve all students. The survey is online now and will be open through Friday, Dec. 13.

Thurston's Band/Strings/Jazz Concert is on Tuesday, December 10 and the Winter Choir Concert is on Thursday, December 12. These winter concerts will be held in Laguna Beach High School's Artist Theater beginning at 7:00 P.M.

Thurston Middle School 7th Grade Musical Theatre presents a reading of Meredith Willson's The Music Man KIDS on Friday, November 15 at 3:30pm in the TMS Black Box, 2100 Park Avenue. Admission is free, although donations are welcome.

In 2018, data from the CDC and FDA showed that one in five high-school students and one in 20 middle-school students used a vaping product within the past month. There are three primary components of the anti-tobacco/vaping education in LBUSD. These are aligned with best-practice public health models for reducing harmful risk behaviors.

The Laguna Beach Unified School District is using an innovative online platform called Thoughtexchange, to gather community feedback to inform the development of the District's three-year Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The district's latest "Exchange" is online now, and will be open through Wednesday, November 13 at 8 PM.

On October 22, the board reviewed and adopted Resolution 19-10: Support of Dyslexia Awareness Month. The resolution recognizes the significant impact dyslexia can have on academic achievement and emphasizes the district's commitment to creating the conditions and culture that support world-class learners.

The LBHS Fall Play, Our Town by Thornton Wilder, opens on Friday, 10/25 and runs through Sunday, 11/3. Performances Fridays & Saturdays at 7:00pm and Sundays at 2:30pm at the Artists Theatre. Featuring special guest artist Mr. Mark Dressler and 30+ LBHS student cast and crew members!

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced today the statewide results of the CAASPP tests for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and math. The latest data from the CDE shows that LBUSD continues to be one of the highest performing districts in CA in English language arts (ELA) and math.

Laguna Beach Unified School District has named Brandon Lee, instructional assistant at El Morro Elementary School, the recipient of the 2019 Spirit of Laguna award. Lee currently serves as a lead instructional assistant at El Morro and forms a part of the Crisis Prevention Intervention team at the site.

At the August 27 board meeting, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education voted 5-0 to appoint Top of the World Elementary School Principal Michael Conlon as the director of human resources. The new position was approved on July 16, 2019, as part of administrative restructuring at the district level.

Laguna Beach Unified School District has been ranked #1 in Best School Districts in Orange County by data compiler Niche, which looked at school districts across the country leading into the 2019-2020 school year. Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Ed as well as test scores, college data, and ratings collected from Niche users.

Laguna Beach High School is seeking mentors to participate in Authentic Exploratory Research (AER), a student self-directed project-based learning program set to launch in the fall. Focused on real-world application, AER asks students to identify a field of interest and pairs each student with a volunteer mentor in that field.

During ESP, all 6th and 7th graders had a chance to hear about ASB and PALs in a presentation by the current students in these leadership groups. We encourage students to apply using the ASB or PAL application to take a leadership role at Thurston Middle School.
