TMS CAASPP testing for all students (grades 6-8) begins on Monday, May 6. Students will test in Language Arts during the first week and Mathematics during the second week. CAST testing is only for 8th graders which will be during the week of May 28. Good Luck TMS, do your best!

Thurston's PTA Book Swap is here! Bring a Book... Get a Book! Bring up to 5 gently-used or new middle school level books and drop them off before school or in the library from April 29 - May 2. The Book Shop will be open during break on Thursday, May 2 for our Book Swappers!

Two teams from Laguna Beach Unified School District competing in the Destination ImaginationĀ® (DI) Affiliate Tournament have advanced to the Global Finals taking place May 22-25 in Kansas City, Missouri. The annual Global Finals competition is the world's largest celebration of student creativity.

On Wednesday, May 1, "LBUSD Presents: Dr. Denise Pope" at the Laguna Beach High School Artists Theatre to discuss strategies for reducing academic stress. Dr. Pope is a Senior Lecturer at Stanford University and co-author of "Overloaded and Underprepared: Strategies for Stronger Schools and Healthy, Successful Kids".

LBUSD was awarded four grants totaling $18,000 from the Festival of Arts (FOA) Foundation to enhance fine arts programs at LBHS and Thurston Middle School. The Laguna Beach FOA Foundation was incorporated in 1989 to preserve and promote the fine arts and all other artistic endeavors in and about Laguna Beach.

Nine teams representing Laguna Beach High School, Thurston Middle School, and Top of the World Elementary from Laguna Beach Unified School District have qualified to move on to the Destination Imagination (DI) state competition on April 6 in Clovis.

Thurston Middle School's 7th Grade Drama/Chorus students will present a reading of Alice in Wonderland on Thursday, March 14 at 3:30pm in the TMS Black Box. The reading runs approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free, although donations are welcome.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond recently announced that Thurston Middle School is among the 162 middle and high schools honored under the 2019 Distinguished Schools Program. Schools are awarded for achieving exceptional student performance for two consecutive school years.

EPIC Challenge has begun! This is TMS's biggest fundraiser which started January 29. Students came home with large white envelopes with all of the information. This can also be found on the Thurston PTA website. Who will be the big winner?!?!?!

Semester One is coming to an end on Friday, January 25. Students, it is time to step-it-up for final exams! Final exam days will be minimum days out at 1 p.m. with no after school activities. There is NO SCHOOL for middle and high school students on Monday, January 28. Study hard and good luck!

Laguna Beach High School Drama invites audiences to a performance of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet at the Laguna Beach High School Artists Theatre beginning Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m. The production will feature the work of guest director Michael Irish, a 1999 alumnus of LBHS and the Park Avenue Players.

October 25 and 26 are minimum days. Students will be released at 1 p.m. There will be no after school activities and no late bus on these days. Thurston Wheel Day is now Wednesday, October 31. Students can bring and use their rollerskates, razors and skateboards during P.E., but please no bikes.

TMS Talks (students talking to students) and Career Talks (career experts talking to students) are happening every Thursday during ESP. Students sign up during break on Thursdays either outside of the Collaboratory for TMS Talks or outside of the Blackbox for Career Talks. The TMS and Career Talks are available to view on the TMS website.

The results of the CAASPP tests, which were completed by students in grades 3-8 and 11 last spring, have been released by the California Department of Education. The latest data shows that the LBUSD continues to be one of the highest performing districts in California in English language arts and mathematics.

Dr. Jerry Weichman, popular speaker and parenting expert, returns to the LBUSD on October 22 for Part II Raising Healthy and Resilient Teens: Social-Emotional Support. He will explore anxiety, depression, fostering resiliency, stress-related disorders, low self-esteem, and warning signs.

TMS 6th graders will be headed to Emerald Bay Cove on Catalina Island from Tuesday, October 2 - Friday, October 5. They will have an incredible hands-on science experience as they snorkel, kayak, hike and so much more! You can watch a video, get forms, make donations and print a packing list on the website.
