Thurston Middle School's 7th Grade Drama/Chorus students will present a reading of Alice in Wonderland this Thursday, November 29 at 3:30pm in the TMS Black Box. The reading runs approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free, although donations are welcome.

Laguna Beach High School Drama invites audiences to a performance of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet at the Laguna Beach High School Artists Theatre beginning Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m. The production will feature the work of guest director Michael Irish, a 1999 alumnus of LBHS and the Park Avenue Players.

The results of the CAASPP tests, which were completed by students in grades 3-8 and 11 last spring, have been released by the California Department of Education. The latest data shows that the LBUSD continues to be one of the highest performing districts in California in English language arts and mathematics.

Make-up Picture Day is Tuesday, October 23. This is for students who were absent on Picture Day or students who need to retake their picture. Let your child's classroom teacher know if you would like your child to retake his/her picture.

Summer school 2018 at Laguna Beach Unified School District will begin on Monday, June 25 for all grade levels. Elementary and middle school students will be attending Top of the World Elementary School and students in grades 9-12 will be at Laguna Beach High School.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has designated Laguna Beach Unified School District a No Place for HateĀ® district, recognizing its commitment to creating safe and respectful learning environments for students. The ADL will present LBUSD with the No Place for Hate designation at the school board meeting in the fall.

The U.S. Department of Education announced on May 16 that Top of the World Elementary School is among the 2018 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools award honorees. It was nominated by the California Department of Education (CDE) for its focus on developing environmentally and socially conscious students.

Laura Silver, an 8th-grade language arts teacher at Thurston Middle School, was selected as the LBUSD Teacher of the Year. Additionally, Kristine Landrum, special education instructional assistant at Top of the World Elementary, was selected as the Classified Employee of the Year for the district.

The Center for Digital Education recognized LBUSD as a Digital School Districts Survey 2017-2018 winner for its innovative technology and digital learning initiatives. The survey awards the U.S. public school boards and districts that most fully implement technology benchmarks in the evolution of digital education.

On April 12 at 5:30 p.m. committee members and staff will present a recommendation for the restructuring of the student instructional year in 2019-20 at a Board Study Session to which the public is invited to attend and provide input to the Board.
