Laguna Beach Unified School District is committed to assisting students with learning opportunities that utilize 21st century tools and help prepare them for college and careers in today’s global economy.

Technology is a significant educational enhancement that plays an integral part in today’s society and workplace. Students must have the ability to use a variety of technological devices as a necessary skill. Earlier this school year, LBUSD initiated a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) pilot program for Laguna Beach High School and Thurston Middle School students. In January, the BYOD pilot program will begin at both elementary schools for fifth grade students. This program will augment Project-Based-Learning opportunities across the curriculum and the Common Core State Standards in Technology encompassing collaboration, research and presentation skills.

Top of the World Elementary School Principal Michael Conlon agrees, "It is so critical we teach the necessary technological skills to our students that will prepare them for the demands of the workforce upon completion of high school and college. It is our job to build a strong educational foundation at the elementary level and the BYOD program is one more tool to enable us to do just that. This is an exciting time and I can't wait to see how these devices will transform the instruction in the classroom."

Parents have three BYOD options for their students:

    1. Bring a device to and from home
    2. Lease a District Chromebook
    3. Check out a classroom Chromebook daily
