Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, LBUSD will transition back to the Raptor Volunteer Management System. As part of this change, all volunteers, both new and returning, will need to create a new Raptor account before volunteering at any school or district activity.

If you previously created a Raptor volunteer account with LBUSD, you should have received an email on Thursday, August 6, notifying you that your volunteer application has expired. This expiration was applied to all volunteer accounts to comply with new state requirements mandating annual volunteer applications and mandated reporter training. As a result, all volunteers must submit a new application for the 2026–27 school year.

The visitor check-in process at school sites will remain largely the same. Visitors will continue to use the existing iPads and badge printers in school offices. The primary difference is that Raptor does not use facial recognition. Instead, volunteers and visitors may download the Raptor Safe App to check in without presenting a physical ID.

Annual Volunteer Requirements

Effective July 1, 2026, new state laws (AB 506 and SB 848) require all school volunteers to complete mandated reporter training each year. The training is built into the Raptor volunteer application, so volunteers must submit a new application and complete the training annually before beginning service. Live Scan fingerprint clearance remains a one-time requirement.

Volunteer Categories

Volunteers will continue to fall into one of two categories:

• Tier I Volunteers – Supervised volunteers who serve fewer than five hours per week, such as classroom, front office, and committee volunteers.
• Tier II Volunteers – Volunteers serving in unsupervised settings or more than five hours per week, such as coaches, tutors, field trip or overnight chaperones, and drivers transporting students.

Regardless of volunteer tier, all volunteers must complete the annual mandated reporter training through the Raptor application before volunteering.

To avoid delays at the start of the school year, we encourage all volunteers to complete the registration process as early as possible.
