Laguna Beach Unified School District establishes AD HOC Arts Committee to elevate arts and community engagement

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – The Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education is forming an AD HOC Arts Committee to explore how the arts can further enrich learning, wellness and community connection in schools. The committee is open to students, parents, educators, artists and community members who wish to apply and participate.

The committee will be co-chaired by board president Dee Perry and trustee Sheri Morgan. AD HOC Arts Committee members will include selected members of the community and five appointed arts leaders representing dance, music, visual arts, sculpture and the Laguna College of Art & Design. The charge of the committee will focus on elevating the arts as a defining element in LBUSD schools, strengthening partnerships between schools and the arts community, promoting Laguna Beach’s artistic heritage, affirming the arts as essential to student wellness and belonging, and championing art as a pathway for inclusion and shared empathy.

“One of the priorities identified in my 100-day report was preserving and strengthening the arts as an essential part of a well-rounded education,” Superintendent Jason Glass, Ed.D., said. “The formation of the AD HOC Arts Committee reflects that commitment by bringing together Laguna Beach partners to ensure the arts continue to thrive in every LBUSD school. Through this collaboration, we’re building stronger connections between our classrooms and the community and celebrating creativity as a cornerstone of student success.”

The committee will convene in mid-November and hold additional meetings over the next several months. In addition to the appointed committee members, the district is seeking community representatives to join the committee. Those interested in serving are encouraged to complete the interest form at https://bit.ly/ADHOCcommittee by Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025.

LBUSD serves about 2,300 students in grades TK–12 at four school sites: El Morro Elementary, Top of the World Elementary, Thurston Middle School, and Laguna Beach High School.
