BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER PROFILE: PRESIDENT SHERI MORGAN

President Sheri Morgan brings to the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education the perspective of a long-time parent, community member, and advocate for public education.

President Morgan came to Laguna Beach in 1990, drawn by school and work opportunities and a long-held goal of living by the coast. Her family entered the Laguna Beach school system in 2005, giving her over 20 years of experience as an LBUSD parent. She and her husband, Mike, raised their four children - Max, Grady, Cassidy, and Maris - in LBUSD schools, all graduating from Laguna Beach High School.

Like many Laguna Beach families, the Morgans’ involvement extended well beyond the classroom. Their family life was rooted in the school community through youth sports, coaching, officiating, volunteering, and attending performances, exhibitions, and athletic events. These experiences connected them with families across the district and reinforced the central role schools play in Laguna Beach.

President Morgan has been involved in district and school-site activities for many years, including serving as Laguna Beach High School PTA President, where she led staff wellness and student voice initiatives; supporting PTAs across school sites; helping lead initiatives such as Sports Swap (where she was one of three founding parents and spent eight years overseeing its success), Book Swap, and the Math Challenge at Top of the World; and serving as a member of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Committee at both the site and district levels. Her work in these roles focused on student participation, family engagement, and community involvement.

Through these experiences, President Morgan developed a strong familiarity with LBUSD schools, programs, staff, and governance structures, as well as the perspectives of families across the community.

President Morgan chose to serve on the Board because she believes public education is a shared community responsibility. As a Board member and now Board President, her work centers on governance, oversight, and engagement with district leadership and the community. Her focus includes district priorities related to student learning, long-term resource use, and two-way communication.

President Morgan supports a well-rounded educational program that includes academics, the arts, athletics, civics, and pathways that prepare students for life beyond graduation, while recognizing the importance of student wellness and balance.

Outside of Board service, President Morgan enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling, biking, skiing, attending arts and sporting events, and being with family. She remains appreciative of the role Laguna Beach schools and the broader community played in her family’s life and continues to serve the district in that spirit.
