Laguna Beach Family Resource Center: Supporting families from school start to graduation
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – Laguna Beach Unified School District celebrated the grand opening of its Family Resource Center (FRC) on October 18, welcoming parents and staff members to an open house event that focused on showcasing the wide range of school-based mental health and family services available throughout the district.
Located on St. Ann’s Drive, the FRC provides support services to families from the beginning of the student school experience through graduation. It serves as a resource hub, offering caregivers a wealth of knowledge spanning a wide spectrum of subjects that include assisting their children in their academic pursuits, in addition to comprehending and addressing mental health challenges. These insights are imparted through workshops, book club series, parent education initiatives like the Parent Project, as well as guest speakers.
“Parenting is the hardest job there is, in my opinion, and every resource we can gather to help our young people thrive is what we need to put our emphasis on,” said LBUSD Board President Jan Vickers. “Dr. Viloria brought a strong vision for social-emotional well-being when he came to LBUSD as a new superintendent, and he has continued to stress the need for that. The FRC is one of the major projects we see now completed and opening to support our students, their families, and our staff,” she concluded.
Support for families can begin before students enter school with LBUSD’s early education programs that lay the groundwork for successful, lifelong learning. Elementary school families can find help supporting healthy learning habits and social interaction through after-school programs and parent learning opportunities. Robust counseling support helps middle school families as they navigate rapid social and emotional changes. Finally, counseling and additional service support continue for high school families as they prepare for college, careers, and early adulthood.
The FRC is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. Visit www.lbfamilyresourcecenter.org for more information or to learn about upcoming events.
