Laguna Beach High School Provides Students the Opportunity to Explore Future Career Paths
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. - The Laguna Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) Career Education Department has partnered with the Laguna Beach High School (LBHS) College and Career Center to offer high school students bi-monthly career exploration sessions to provide the opportunity for LBHS students to discover, learn, and plan for future career fields. These sessions, called World of Work, are available online during students’ tutorial period.
Each World of Work session focuses on one specific career field of interest to LBHS students. The Career Education Department and College and Career Center invite industry experts of various careers to discuss their experiences in school, career path development, successes and challenges they may have faced, preparation for the career (including education and training requirements), what they enjoy about their career, and other related opportunities in their career fields.
These informative sessions allow students to gain insight into a plethora of career fields that they may never have considered or heard of, as well as help them prepare for a future career and what education paths they may need to pursue. Students are exposed to high-demand career fields in Orange County that may also lead to high-wage careers. Some World of Work careers the students have learned about include: Finance and Investments, Business, Mechanical Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Physical Therapy. Future sessions include careers in Administration of Justice, Forensic Psychology, Environmental Sustainability, and Construction Management.
“Part of the mission of the LBUSD Career Education Department is to support the career development of our high school students,” shared Kellee Shearer, LBUSD Career Counseling Coordinator. “The World of Work Career Presentations provide opportunities for our students to explore new careers and engage in conversations with industry professionals. These presentations are critical to the success of our students’ careers and college readiness. “
LBUSD is committed to providing access to college and career readiness across all grade levels and prides itself on developing opportunities for our students to learn vital career skills and develop a career plan for post-high school graduation.
