Laguna Beach Unified Board of Education approves appointment of Manoj Roychowdhury as Assistant Superintendent of Business Services

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – The Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education, at its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 25, approved the appointment of Manoj Roychowdhury as assistant superintendent of business services. His appointment is effective October 13, 2025.

Roychowdhury brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in TK–12 education, spanning school districts and county offices throughout Southern California. He most recently served as acting superintendent and associate superintendent of business services at Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, where he managed a $350 million general fund budget and oversaw departments including budgeting, accounting, facilities, technology, nutrition services, risk management, and school police.

He has also held senior leadership roles at Santa Ana Unified School District, El Rancho Unified, West Covina Unified, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Over the course of his career, Roychowdhury has led successful bond campaigns, secured federal funding for major school projects, and implemented financial strategies that stabilized budgets while improving facilities and resources for students.

“Manoj stood out among a highly qualified pool of candidates and joins us at an important time for our district,” said LBUSD Superintendent Jason Glass, Ed.D. “As we continue to define and sharpen our priorities, his technical expertise and collaborative style will be a tremendous asset. His steady approach and proven record of success will bring strength and clarity to our leadership team, and I am confident he will be a valued partner in supporting our students, staff, and community.”

In his new role, Roychowdhury will serve as the district’s chief business officer, overseeing fiscal services, facilities, transportation, nutrition services, purchasing, risk management, and other critical business functions.

"I am honored to join Laguna Beach Unified School District and contribute to its proud tradition of educational excellence. The District’s rich history, strong community partnerships, and unwavering commitment to student success reflect values that deeply resonate with me,” said Roychowdhury. “I look forward to working alongside the Board of Education, Superintendent, staff, and families to build on this foundation and ensure that our resources continue to support innovative learning opportunities and outstanding achievement for every student."

Roychowdhury holds an MBA in finance and systems, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and certifications, including the Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) Chief Business Official Mentor Program and Project Management Professional (PMP) credential. Prior to his work in public education, Roychowdhury gained more than a decade of experience in the private sector with Deloitte and KPMG, specializing in financial audits, advisory services, and business process optimization.
