LBUSD and employee associations reach tentative agreements focused on health care affordability

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – Laguna Beach Unified School District and the Laguna Beach Unified Faculty Association (LaBUFA) have reached a tentative agreement that prioritizes maintaining high-quality health care coverage while limiting cost increases for employees and the district.

As part of the agreements, employees will have access to additional medical plan options, increased district contributions toward health insurance premiums, and enhanced processes to ensure that employee and district contributions are calculated accurately and consistently.

Pending ratification by association members and approval by the Board of Education, the tentative agreement provides employees with greater certainty regarding health benefit options and premium costs for the coming year. The agreement also includes ongoing 1% salary schedule increases for certificated, classified, and management employees. The agreements reflect the district's commitment to competitive compensation and long-term fiscal stability.

The agreements also establish a framework for ongoing review of employee health care costs through joint labor-management committees.

"I am proud of the efforts and hard work of our negotiation teams to reach this tentative agreement. It has been a truly collaborative, mutual effort with our labor partners. This agreement demonstrates our ability to secure our district’s future while supporting our staff,” said Board President Sheri Morgan. “As a community-funded district, we bear a deep responsibility to our local taxpayers, whose hard-earned dollars fund these very benefits. This milestone proves that we can responsibly correct past fiscal overspending and protect public resources, while still delivering a sustainable health insurance solution that honors and supports our incredible, dedicated staff," she concluded

The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by association members and approval by the Board of Education.
